Elvis (NBC-TV Special) é o 29º álbum de trilha sonora de Elvis, seu 59º LP e 154º trabalho audiofônico (incluindo EPs e singles). Ele contém parte das canções que seriam vistas e ouvidas no especial "Elvis" da NBC-TV, que iria ao ar em 3 de dezembro de 1968 e redefiniria sua carreira ao demonstrar que Elvis estava apto e querendo retornar aos palcos depois de 12 anos no cinema. Ao contrário do trabalho penoso das gravações de trilhas de filmes, este mostrava um Elvis genuinamente animado com o projeto.
O álbum consistia de uma mistura de gravações em estúdio e ao vivo, sendo o material ao vivo uma mistura de faixas "sit-down", com um grupo pequeno de seus amigos e músicos, e faixas "stand-up" com uma orquestra. Para o LP, o formato musical apresentava Presley em três configurações diferentes: números com medleys de seu repertório; uma pequena banda informal apresentando músicas completas na frente de uma plateia ao vivo; e dois números originais apoiados por uma orquestra em frente a uma plateia ao vivo.
As duas baladas deste álbum foram lançadas como singles. "If I Can Dream" havia sido lançada em 5 de novembro de 1968, com "Edge of Reality", do filme "Live a Little, Love a Little", no lado B e chegara ao 12º lugar na Billboard Hot 100, tornando-se seu single de maior sucesso desde 1965. "Memories" seria lançada dois meses após a transmissão, em 25 de fevereiro de 1969, como lado B do single "Charro!", música-título do seu próximo filme.
Ao chegar ao Top 10 após seu álbum anterior ter conquistado a ínfima 82ª posição, Elvis (NBC-TV Special ressuscitou sua carreira de gravação numa época em que parecia praticamente moribunda. Em uma primeira espécie de posição dominadora quanto a sua carreira, Elvis insistiu que as mixagens mono para essas músicas fossem mantidas no álbum ao invés de convertidas para estéreo; tal conversão só seria vendida em 1991, tendo os lançamentos seguintes retornado ao som mono.

Ao longo dos anos, a FTD veio lançando CDs com parte do conteúdo dos ensaios e gravações para o '68 Comeback Special, sem fazer questão de criar sua própria versão do disco original até 2016. Abaixo listamos e comentamos tais trabalhos relacionados ao especial de 1968.

Em maio de 2016 a FTD finalmente lança sua versão do álbum ELVIS - NBC-TV Special, de 1968, como seu 141º trabalho. Embora inúmeras compilações de momentos do especial já fizessem parte de discos oficiais e bootlegs, a gravadora fez tudo a seu alcance para criar um verdadeiro presente aos fãs com pérolas nunca antes vendidas com som estéreo e qualidade digna de Elvis - e nisso ela se superou, disponibilizando uma versão com dois discos. No primeiro CD constam as faixas:
