Com canções gravadas em um período de quase um ano e meio entre fevereiro de 1957 e junho de 1958, o disco buscou trazer ambos os lados de cinco singles lançados durante 1958 e 1959, assim como seu antecessor ultrapremiado Elvis' Golden Records (6x Platina) havia feito com os singles de 1956 e 1957. Das dez músicas, duas haviam atingido o número 1 da Billboard Hot 100 e outras seis chegaram ao Top 10.
O título deste álbum é mostrado nos rótulos do disco original como "Elvis 'Gold Records, Vol. 2", com vírgula e abreviatura de "volume", mas na capa, aparece como "Elvis' Gold Records - Volume 2". A frase "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" não aparece nos rótulos, e é ao título dos discos - e não das capas - a que normalmente se dá preferência quando há informações conflitantes nos álbuns. Portanto, a frase não fazia parte do título original.

Foi entre 1959 e 1961, mas não mais tarde do que 1962, que a RCA Victor acrescentou a frase aos rótulos de alguns discos mono e aos recém lançados LPs em "estéreo reprocessado eletronicamente"; ela aparece quase exclusivamente em discos prensados na fábrica da RCA em Hollywood, enquanto as outras tendem a usar apenas o título apropriado. O motivo da troca de "Golden" no LP da primeira coletânea de 1958 para "Gold" neste permanece inexplicado.
Em 1984, a RCA reeditou o álbum original de 10 faixas em CD com som estereofônico reprocessado (falso estéreo), versão que foi rapidamente retirada do mercado e substituída pela áudio original em 1985. A gravadora colocou o trabalho novamente nas lojas em 1997, com uma edição expandida de 20 faixas que adicionou clássicos de 1956 a 1958, incluindo "Hard Headed Woman" e "Playing For Keeps", juntamente com faixas de EPs campeões de vendas como "Peace In the Valley" (1957) e "Elvis Sings Christmas Songs" (1957). Como sempre, a FTD tem problemas em trazer conteúdo extenso e diferenciado dos discos lançados entre 1956 e 1959. Assim, a gravadora opta por lançar o máximo de takes alternativos das músicas disponíveis junto ao EP "Elvis Sails", com entrevistas dadas por Elvis antes de partir para a Alemanha. Fechando o disco, a capa e o livreto são bem apresentados com uma boa seleção de memorabilia, como caixas de fitas originais e recortes de jornais. Há também muitas novas fotos do ensaio fotográfico de fevereiro de 1957 com o Gold Lame Suit. No trabalho constam as faixas:
